     OUTCOMES OF STUDY

Understanding Leadership Roles – Students gain a clear understanding of how Headmasters and Principals act as academic and administrative leaders in schools.

Knowledge of Functions – Learners become aware of the major functions such as supervision, planning, curriculum management, financial control, staff appraisal, and community relations.

Differentiation of Roles – The study helps in distinguishing between the responsibilities of a Headmaster (school-level) and a Principal (higher/college-level).

      INTRODUCTION
  •  In the context of school organisation, the Headmaster (HM) at the elementary/secondary level and the Principal at the higher secondary/college level are the key leaders who guide the school’s academic vision, manage resources, and ensure a positive learning environment.
  • They act as administrators, visionaries, and motivators, balancing managerial duties with educational leadership.
  •  A good HM or Principal fosters a culture of teamwork, innovation, and academic excellence while ensuring discipline and accountability.
                          
 
 
 
MEANING OF LEADERSHIP IN SCHOOL ORGANISATION
  •  Leadership in schools refers to the ability to influence, guide, and inspire teachers, students, and the community towards achieving educational goals.
  •  The HM/Principal is both:
  •  An administrative head – manages infrastructure, staff, and policies.
  •  An instructional leader – improves teaching–learning quality.
             
ROLES OF HM/ PRINCIPAL AS A LEADER
1. Academic Leader
    Formulates a clear vision and mission for the school.
    Supervises lesson planning, teaching methods, and curriculum implementation.
    Encourages innovation and adoption of modern pedagogical techniques.

2.Administrative Leader
   Prepares timetables, allocates duties, manages school records.
   Co-ordinates school activities and committees.
   Maintains discipline among staff and students

3.Motivator and Guide
   Encourages teachers’ professional development.
   Recognises achievements and creates a supportive environment.
   Acts as a mentor to staff and students

4. Community Leader
   Builds strong school–community relations.
   Involves parents in decision-making (PTA meetings).

The B.Ed. Natural Science students of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, successfully organised an inspiring Thought for the Day session on 14th August 2025 at 9:30 AM in the General Hall of the college. The theme of the event was:



                                            
  "Every Sunrise is a Chance to Rise Again"



 

The programme began with a soulful prayer by Navya B and Aswathi KP, setting a calm and uplifting atmosphere. This was followed by Acharyavandanam presented by the same team, as a mark of reverence towards teachers and the teaching profession.


The session was smoothly compered by Anusree V , ensuring the programme’s seamless flow. The thematic presentation was delivered by Hiba I and Treesa mol C J, who shared motivating thoughts on the importance of resilience, hope, and embracing each new day as an opportunity to improve and grow.


The event concluded with the National Anthem, filling the hall with a sense of unity and pride.


The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sreevidya Nair N (Teacher in Charge) and Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R (Principal in Charge). The session left a positive and energising impact, reminding all present of the power of new beginnings.

The B.Ed. Natural Science students of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, successfully organised an engaging and heart-warming Thought for the Day session on 4th August 2025 at 9:30 AM in the General Hall of the college. The theme of the event was:


“A Bond Beyond Books: When Teachers Become Friends”

                            

                          


The programme commenced with compering by Angel Joshy A, who welcomed the gathering and introduced the theme. A soulful prayer was rendered by Amrutha K and team, creating a serene and reflective atmosphere. This was followed by Acharyavandanam presented by Gowripriya, as a gesture of respect and gratitude towards the teaching profession.


The central presentation on the theme was delivered by Athira Haridas and Kavyakrishna P, who shared thought-provoking insights and heartfelt reflections on the importance of nurturing bonds between teachers and students beyond academic confines. Their presentation emphasised mutual trust, guidance, and the role of teachers as lifelong mentors and friends.


The session concluded with the National Anthem, instilling a sense of pride and unity among all present.


The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. M. P. Ravishanker (Teacher in Charge) and Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R (Principal in Charge). The event left a lasting impression, reminding everyone that the most profound lessons often arise from genuine human connections between teachers and students.
